As an Automation Project Lead Engineer at ABB Switzerland, you will play a pivotal role in planning, coordinating, and executing medium to high complexity Distributed Control System (DCS) projects within the energy sector. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will lead technical disciplines, share best practices, and ensure innovative, efficient solutions that meet customer expectations. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to sustainable and smart energy operations.
Tasks
- Fulfil contractual obligations regarding technical requirements, scope, and on-time delivery for medium to high complexity Automation/DCS projects.
- Lead, coordinate, coach, and support project engineers, and manage and organise operation centre engineering and external suppliers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to work closely with customers, shape and deliver solutions, seek feedback, and innovate to create and deliver improvements.
- Develop and review standard processes, tools, and techniques while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and contractual requirements.
- Assist project managers in scope control, risk and opportunity assessments, and implement improvement and mitigation actions, including providing technical details, cost calculations, and deliverables definition for sales proposals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated leadership personality with 3–5 years of engineering and commissioning experience in large-scale process automation projects covering both software and electrical engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of large-scale process automation DCS Systems, specifically ABB 800xA and 800M.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building cooperation, negotiation, and agreement with customers and suppliers.
- Broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, engineering practices, and codes and standards in the automation field, including SCADA and Control Systems.
- Experience with functional safety requirements in system, software, and hardware design; Certified Functional Safety Engineer status considered an asset.
- Strong focus on safety at work and commitment to following workplace safety guidelines.
- Professional, collaborative, and solutions-oriented approach with solid written and spoken communication skills in German and English.
